On May 11, 2024, during a routine occupational health check-up, Paco Ávila — an athlete and life enthusiast, as he defines himself — was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia. After undergoing three cycles of chemotherapy, he received a bone marrow transplant from his sister.
With an admirable attitude, Paco decided to channel his energy into organizing a series of solidarity challenges to continue the fight against leukaemia.
The first of these challenges was carried out with the support of the company Molins Cement and the invaluable collaboration of his colleagues and friends, especially Víctor López. The goal was to reach 5,380 meters of positive elevation gain on a route located within the cement plant’s quarry. Participation was open: people could complete the course by bike, on foot, running, walking — however they chose.
The second challenge, Race Across Spain, was even more demanding: 500 kilometers non-stop by bike, starting from Riba-roja de Túria.
Both events were organized in support of the Josep Carreras Foundation, with the aim of raising funds for research and the fight against leukaemia. Thanks to the generosity of all participants, a total of €3,495 was raised.
A heartfelt thank you to Paco Ávila, Molins Cement, Víctor López, and all the friends and colleagues who made these days full of effort, commitment, and hope possible.
Together, we are Unstoppable!
