The Josep Carreras Institute and the Hospital del Mar Research Institute strengthen their institutional collaboration

The Director of the Hospital del Mar Research Institute (HMRIB), Dr. Joaquín Arribas, and the Managing Director, Dr. Vanesa Nogales, visited the Josep Carreras Leukemia Research Institute last Thursday, August 14. They were welcomed by the new Director of the IJC, Dr. Ari Melnick, the designated future Managing Director, Ms. Cristina Casaus, and were accompanied by Dr. Anna Bigas, Principal Investigator of the Stem Cells and Cancer group and a member of both institutions.

The institutional meeting served to share strategic challenges and to identify and explore new avenues for joint work. In this context, the leadership of both centers formalized the agreement to establish a cell culture facility at the HMRIB premises, promoted by the IJC and the Josep Carreras Foundation, providing researchers with state-of-the-art infrastructure to advance their research.

According to Dr. Melnick, Director of the IJC, this agreement is “an outstanding example of interinstitutional synergy and of both institutions’ commitment to interactive and collaborative science.”

For his part, Dr. Arribas, Director of the HMRIB, emphasizes that “through this alliance we strengthen the already excellent collaborations with the IJC, reaffirming our commitment to translational research in hematological tumors.”

With this agreement, the HMRIB and the Josep Carreras Institute reaffirm their determination to continue working together to push the boundaries of medicine, with a particular focus on eradicating leukemia and other hematological diseases through clinical and translational research and scientific cooperation of excellence.
