On 18 September, Barcelona hosted the second edition of the Workshop “Current and Future Challenges in Voluntary Bone Marrow Donors in Spain”, organised by the Spanish Society of Blood Transfusion and Cell Therapy (SETS), the Josep Carreras Leukaemia Foundation, through the Spanish Bone Marrow Donor Registry (REDMO), and the Spanish National Transplant Organisation (ONT).
The event brought together leading professionals in the field of haematopoietic stem cell donation and transplantation to share experiences, review the progress made since the first edition and discuss new proposals aimed at further improving donation processes.
The main topics addressed included donor recruitment and the need to attract younger donors, improvements in post-donation follow-up, new challenges in quality and biovigilance, the evolution of national haematopoietic stem cell transplantation strategies, and new opportunities for innovation in cells and cell therapy.
This second edition builds on the workshop held in 2025 and consolidates the event as a forum for collaboration between the different professionals and organisations involved in bone marrow donation in Spain, with a shared goal: to continue improving the quality, safety and effectiveness of the entire donation and transplantation process.
