VulnerAM project seeks new vulnerabilities in aggressive myeloid leukaemias

The Josep Carreras Leukaemia Research Institute is leading VULNERAM, a research project designed to identify new therapeutic vulnerabilities in aggressive myeloid leukemias, with the goal of developing more effective and personalised treatments for patients with limited therapeutic options.

Acute myeloid leukaemia (AML) is one of the most aggressive blood cancers and continues to pose significant clinical challenges, particularly for patients who fail to respond to treatment or experience disease relapse. Through VULNERAM, researchers aim to gain a deeper understanding of the biological mechanisms that enable leukemic cells to survive and resist current therapies.

The project will combine molecular biology, genomics, and advanced experimental models to identify the specific dependencies of leukemic cells and uncover new therapeutic targets that can be exploited through precision medicine approaches. The ultimate goal is to develop more selective treatment strategies capable of eliminating cancer cells while preserving healthy tissue.

VULNERAM is one of the seven projects selected in the Innomed Awards call, an initiative that supports innovative biomedical research with strong potential for translation into clinical practice. This recognition will help accelerate the project’s development and bring new therapeutic opportunities closer to patients.
