At the Josep Carreras Leukaemia Foundation, together with the Grünenthal Foundation, we are launching a new series of 8 adapted physical exercise videos aimed at improving the quality of life of people with hematological diseases.
The videos, now available online, offer simple and safe exercises guided by professionals from the Institut Català d’Oncologia. They are adapted to different levels of mobility, allowing each patient to stay active according to how they feel at any given time.
The series is structured into four postural blocks —lying down, seated, standing, and preserved mobility— with different levels of intensity. It includes exercises to improve mobility, stimulate circulation, strengthen muscles, and reduce symptoms such as fatigue and neuropathy.
In a context where, according to SEOM, 90% of cancer patients experience pain, adapted physical activity is emerging as a key tool to relieve it and prevent complications related to inactivity.
In addition to helping manage pain, adapted exercise improves mobility, reduces fatigue, supports bone health, decreases peripheral neuropathy, and enhances emotional well-being. It therefore represents a comprehensive approach that supports patients throughout all stages of the process.
This initiative is part of the project “Together, fighting the pain of oncohematological patients” developed in collaboration with the Grünenthal Foundation, which also includes a guide on how to cope with pain at different stages of treatment.
Furthermore, this new content builds on the previous work carried out by the Josep Carreras Foundation in the field of physiotherapy, such as the physiotherapy manual for hematological and transplant patients published in 2022.
Now, with this video format, we take a further step to bring practical, accessible, and easy-to-follow content into patients’ homes.
