The Ministerio de Sanidad, the Organización Nacional de Trasplantes (ONT) and the Josep Carreras Foundation against Leukaemia have renewed the collaboration agreement they have maintained for more than 30 years to promote bone marrow donation and transplantation in Spain.

This agreement consolidates joint work within the framework of the National Bone Marrow Plan and strengthens the management of the Registro de Donantes de Médula Ósea (REDMO), which is part of the National Health System and managed by the Josep Carreras Foundation.

Thanks to this collaboration and the solidarity of thousands of donors, REDMO currently exceeds 520,000 registered bone marrow donors, positioning it among the most important registries worldwide. These donors are available to patients anywhere in the world who need a haematopoietic stem cell transplant and do not have a compatible donor within their family.

The renewal of the agreement highlights the importance of cooperation between public authorities and social organisations to continue advancing in the fight against leukaemia and other serious haematological diseases, for which bone marrow transplantation may be the only therapeutic option.

At the Josep Carreras Foundation against Leukaemia, we renew our commitment to awareness-raising, rigorous information and the promotion of voluntary and altruistic bone marrow donation, convinced that every new donor can become a life-saving opportunity.
