The Josep Carreras Leukaemia Research Institute took part in SOMMa Connect 2026, an event that brought together centres and units of excellence, companies, investors and other stakeholders from the innovation ecosystem in Barcelona to promote new opportunities for collaboration and knowledge transfer.

Held on 22 and 23 September at the Barcelona Biomedical Research Park (PRBB), SOMMa Connect was organised by the Alliance of Severo Ochoa Centres of Excellence and María de Maeztu Units of Excellence (SOMMa), together with the Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG).

The Josep Carreras Institute was represented by its Director, Prof. Ari Melnick; its Managing Director, Cristina Casaus; and other members of the Institute, who took part in the different activities throughout the event.

Over the two days, representatives from the scientific, business, investment and institutional sectors had the opportunity to discover projects and technologies arising from research excellence and explore new avenues for collaboration, investment and knowledge transfer.

The Josep Carreras Institute has been part of SOMMa since 2024, after receiving the Severo Ochoa Centre of Excellence accreditation, recognising the excellence and impact of its research and its international scientific leadership.

Participation in SOMMa Connect reinforces the Institute’s commitment to collaboration and research excellence as key tools for accelerating knowledge transfer and continuing to advance its mission to end leukaemia and other blood cancers.
