- The Josep Carreras Foundation invites 7 children and their families to the final of the Louis Vuitton Cup 2024
- A day of solidarity thanks to the German sailing team, AC Team Germany, which has been competing these days in Barcelona
This morning, seven children with leukaemia and their families had the opportunity to enjoy a front row seat at the final of the Louis Vuitton Cup 2024, part of the America’s Cup sailing competition. Accompanied by their families and medical staff, the children followed the race from the sea in an AC Team Germany dinghy, played on a racing boat simulator and even had the chance to meet some of the members of the German team. This type of initiative allows patients and their families to disconnect and experience special moments by offering them a day of joy.
Thirteen-year-old Àlex’s family explains: “days like these allow us to enjoy ourselves as a family, disconnect from our reality and be in contact with other families with similar stories. For the children it’s a great day to play, laugh and have fun like a child, which is what they get, and for the parents it’s an opportunity to build community”.
This unique experience has been organised by the Josep Carreras Leukaemia Foundation together with its German headquarters, the Deutsche José Carreras Leukämie Stiftung, in collaboration with the German sailing team, AC Team Germany, and with the help of the Villavecchia Foundation. The children were able to experience first-hand the excitement of one of the most prestigious sporting competitions in the world, creating unforgettable memories in an atmosphere charged with emotion and hope.
Sport as a source of inspiration and support
The purpose of this activity, promoted by the Josep Carreras Foundation, is to offer patients a different and exciting day, while reinforcing the role of sport as an engine of solidarity. The German team has shown its commitment to this cause, thus contributing to more patients being able to enjoy unique experiences that nourish their fighting spirit.
