Orange lights up iconic buildings across Spain

To mark The Unstoppables Day and Leukemia Awareness Week last June, the Josep Carreras Leukaemia Foundation called on cities and institutions across Spain to light up their landmark buildings in orange. The initiative aims to raise awareness of leukaemia, the importance of finding a cure, and the need to support patients and their families.

Bilbao, the host city of our The Unstoppables Day 2026 flagship event, illuminated the Arriaga Theatre, three fountains—the Pergola Fountain in Doña Casilda Iturrizar Park, the Federico Moyúa Square Fountain and the Juan de Garay Fountain—as well as the Iberdrola Tower in orange.

More than 50 iconic landmarks across Spain took part, including:

Barcelona city: Casa Batlló, Palau de la Música Catalana, Gran Teatre del Liceu, La Pedrera, the Sant Pau Art Nouveau Site, the National Theatre of Catalonia (TNC) and Torre Glòries.

Catalonia: Lleida City Hall and the city’s bridges, the Port of Badalona Harbour Master’s Building, the town halls of L’Hospitalet de Llobregat, Terrassa, Vila-seca, Lleida, Maçanet de la Selva, Solsona, Matadepera, Òdena, Premià de Dalt, Guissona, Manresa, Calonge i Sant Antoni, Sant Cugat del Vallès and Castelló d’Empúries, as well as Begur Castle, Esclanyà Church and the façade of the Monastery of Sant Feliu de Guíxols.

Balearic Islands: Bellver Castle and the Royal Palace of La Almudaina in Palma, the town halls of Inca, Petra and Sencelles, the Mallorca Island Council, and the hospitals of Manacor, Inca and Son Llàtzer.

Cuenca: José Luis Perales Auditorium Theatre.

Galicia: Ferrol Town Hall, Montecelo Hospital, O Salnés Hospital and Jofre Theatre in Ferrol.

Madrid: Neptune Fountain, Castellana 77, the Royal Theatre and the Hard Rock Hotel.

Seville: the fountain in Don Juan de Austria Square.

Valencia: the City of Arts and Sciences (Hemisfèric, Science Museum and Palau de les Arts).

A Coruña: Cuatro Caminos Fountain.

Gijón: City Hall.

Málaga: Sohail Castle in Fuengirola.

Murcia: Murcia del Carmen railway station.

Pamplona: City Hall.

Salamanca: Puerta de Zamora Fountain.

La Rioja: Würth Museum.

Zaragoza: Zaragoza Exhibition Centre and the Conference Centre.

This symbolic initiative helps raise the visibility of the cause while strengthening the support of public institutions, organisations and local communities in the fight against leukaemia and other blood cancers.
