The Josep Carreras Leukaemia Foundation has been selected as one of the beneficiary organisations in the latest edition of Santander Bank’s “Euros de tu Nómina” solidarity initiative, a programme that supports social projects through donations made by the bank’s employees, together with contributions from Santander Bank itself.
The closing event of the initiative took place on 12 May at the El Solaruco Auditorium in Ciudad Grupo Santander, in Boadilla del Monte (Madrid), and brought together the 17 organisations selected this year.
The support granted to the Josep Carreras Leukaemia Foundation will be allocated to the “A Home Away from Home” programme, a project that provides free accommodation for oncohaematological patients and their families when they need to travel far from home to receive specialised treatment at referral hospitals.
The programme helps reduce the emotional, social and financial impact of facing a serious illness far from home, by providing a safe place to stay close to the hospital throughout the treatment process. Currently, “A Home Away from Home” provides more than 1,600 overnight stays each year and supports more than 120 patients and family members.
Alejandro Chacón, ambassador for the Foundation’s nomination, highlighted the importance of supporting initiatives that help ensure more equitable access to treatment:

“I decided to support this project because it removes one of the most unfair barriers faced by patients with blood cancer: being unable to access life-saving treatment due to a lack of resources or because they live far from a referral hospital. ‘A Home Away from Home’ offers something that no other organisation provides in such a specific and completely free way: a safe place to recover, together with emotional support, stability and dignity during a critical moment. .”
He also highlighted the impact of Santander Bank solidarity programme and the commitment shown by its employees:
“‘Euros de tu Nómina’ is an extraordinary initiative because it allows us to connect with social organisations and witness first-hand the incredible work they carry out every day. In addition to supporting projects with a real and tangible impact, it encourages employees’ social commitment and creates a very valuable connection between people and the causes that need support. ”
At the Josep Carreras Leukaemia Foundation, we would like to express our heartfelt thanks to Santander Bank, to all the employees who make this initiative possible and especially to Alejandro Chacón for his commitment to and support of the project. Being selected as one of the beneficiary organisations is a very special recognition and a major boost that will allow us to continue supporting people facing oncohaematological diseases.
We would also like to congratulate the other selected organisations and highlight the value of initiatives such as “Euros de tu Nómina”, which demonstrate the tremendous impact that can be achieved when companies, employees and social organisations work together for the common good.
