On June 6, the Escola Kostka Jesuïtes Gràcia community in Barcelona organized a fundraising initiative in support of the Josep Carreras Leukaemia Foundation as part of its end-of-school-year celebration.
The initiative was led by Eduard Sampietro, father of a student at the school, whose family experienced the impact of leukemia firsthand when his youngest son was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia in January 2025. After undergoing several rounds of chemotherapy, the child received a bone marrow transplant on June 3, 2025 — a life-saving opportunity made possible thanks to the generosity of an anonymous donor and the work of REDMO, the Bone Marrow Donor Registry managed by the Josep Carreras Leukaemia Foundation.
Marking the first anniversary of the transplant — a date the family now celebrates as his “life anniversary” — Eduard wanted to turn gratitude into solidarity by organizing a stand selling charitable products during the school celebration. The aim was to raise funds to support the Foundation’s programs while also increasing awareness of blood cancers and other hematological diseases.
All funds raised through this initiative will be allocated entirely to the various programs run by the Josep Carreras Leukaemia Foundation to improve the lives of patients and their families, while advancing towards a future in which leukemia becomes a 100% curable disease.
From the Josep Carreras Leukaemia Foundation, we would like to express our heartfelt thanks to Eduard, the AFA, the Escola Kostka Jesuïtes Gràcia team, and everyone who took part in this solidarity initiative for their commitment and support of our mission.
