Bone marrow donation
Antonio, 4 years old
Transplanted at 1 year old. Acute lymphoblastic leukemia.
“We are Tamara and Antonio, and this is our son Antonio when he was a baby. At 4 months he was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia, the most common cancer in children. We spent 50 days hospitalized, without going home. We wanted to return, but also fears. Since then, we were in and out of the hospital, admissions, visits, check-ups, treatments… Everything was going well until the relapse. It was hard and led us to need a bone marrow transplant. Antonio has no siblings, so he had to look for a compatible donor at REDMO, managed by the Josep Carreras Foundation. And they found it! THANK YOU to that wonderful person who saved our baby’s life.”
Carla
Bone marrow donor.
“She had been registered as a bone marrow donor for 6 years when REDMO called me. One day when I went to donate blood, they explained to me that I could also register as a donor. And I was encouraged. The day of the donation was quiet, but at the same time very exciting. I kept thinking: I hope everything works well and my donation can be useful for the patient. I would say thank you to him or her. This has also been a gift for me. Even though I may not meet the recipient of my donation, at the end we will be connected forever.”
