José Carreras has received in London the prestigious The Classical Brit Awards 2009 for his musical career, one of the most important opera and classic music awards.

During the Gala, José Carreras has carried out a recital in the Royal Albert Hall of London.

I am very happy and honored to hear that The Classical Brit Awards had offered me this distinction,” said José Carreras. “I am particularly pleased that the ceremony has taken place in London which is a city that has meant so much to me in my professional career over many years.”

Over the past 10 years, The Classical Brit Awards have become synonymous for celebrating notable achievement in classical music, honoring such luminaries as Plácido Domingo, Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, Sir Paul McCartney, Andrew Lloyd Webber and the late Vernon Handley.

The Classical Brit Awards were established in 2000 to recognize the outstanding achievements of classical musicians and the growth of classical music sales in the UK. The awards have proved their vital importance to the UK music industry.

After this award, on June 8th, Josep Carreras will go to the Openhaus Zurich el to offer a concert sponsored by the prestigious Swiss watch and jewellery company, Chopard.
