The tenor continues to present his customary charity concerts which benefit the fight against leukaemia.

On Sunday 13th of February 2011, José Carreras presented a charity concert Della Corte Theatre in Genoa (Italy). He was accompanied by Gladys Rossi and the pianist, Maestro Lorenzo Bavaj.

The tenor will donate 100% of the funds that are raised by the recital to the fight against leukaemia. Part of this amount will be attributed to the Istituto Giannina Gaslini in Genoa, to continue their research into bone marrow transplants in paediatric patients.

José Carreras and the fight against leukaemia

After his recuperation, José Carreras decided to create a Foundation to help other people suffering from leukaemia. Since its creation in 1988, the José Carreras International Foundation has reached significant milestones in this field. For example, more than 86,000 voluntary bone marrow donors have been registered in Spain; Spanish patients now have access to over 15 million bone marrow donors who are registered on international registries; more than 7.5 million Euros have been invested in scientific research; and much more. The Foundation has other offices in Germany, Switzerland, and the United States.
