Yesterday, June 4th, Dr. Evarist Feliu, vice-president of the Executive Board of Trustees and President of the Delegate Commission of the Josep Carreras Leukaemia Research Institute Foundation, appeared before a notary, along with the 1st Major Tenant at the Badalona city council, in order to formalize the public deed granting and accepting, during 50 years, the administrative concession for the exclusive use of the public domain of the 4,550 m2 plot where the Can Ruti campus of the Josep Carreras Institute (Germans Trias I Pujol Campus) will be constructed.

The formalization of this deed gives de Josep Carreras Institute full availability of the plot mentioned before for all purposes and, among others, to be able to ask permission to the City Council of Badalona for a construction license. It also empowers the Institute to register the granting of reference in the Land Registry, to be fully effective against third parties.

Very soon, the first stone will be laid, as part of a public event where Mr. Josep Carreras and the Mayor of Badalona will be attending.

Scientific Research

The Josep Carreras Leukaemia Research Institute

Supporting scientific research has always been one of the biggest priorities of the José Carreras Foundation. Since 1988, the various José Carreras Foundations around the world have invested more than 100 million euros in research and have financed over 400 research projects. Yet in spite of all this progress, and even though the percentages of patients cured have risen considerably still one in four children and half of all adult patients still die from leukaemia.

This is why the José Carreras Foundation has decided to give a little bit extra. The commitment to the patient is our raison d’être and this is why it is fundamentally important to increase scientific research activity focussed on leukaemia and other malignant blood diseases. This is why, in partnership with the public administration, the Foundation has embarked upon a historic and unprecedented project: the first Spanish research centre to focus exclusively on leukaemia and other blood related diseases, and one of the only such centres in the world.
