Hello! My name is Edu. In March 2017, when I was 37 years old, I was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia.

One day, coming back from the gym, I got a call from the occupational health department at work and was told to go to the emergency room for a blood test. A routine check-up for work I had done the day before had revealed altered values.

I spent several hours there, in the emergency room, until they finally confirmed the diagnosis: Ph+ chromosome acute lymphoblastic leukaemia. My life stopped right then and I had months of harsh treatment and a bone marrow transplant ahead of me, which I was told from the very first days was essential.

I had to leave work and focus on what was ahead of me. The Josep Carreras Foundation and REDMO found me an anonymous 100% compatible donor; since none of my siblings were compatible, I feel so fortunate that they found one for me…!

Fortunately, thanks to the efforts, treatment and transplantation, and despite the ups and downs during the process, everything has paid off. And, although I have been left with sequelae, we seem to have put the illness behind us and I have recently been able to return to work in an alternative position to the one I had (as I could no longer do the same job as before) in the same company.

Lots of encouragement to all the Unstoppables who have been, are and will be in this fight against leukaemia and hopefully, one day, we will manage to cure 100% of the cases. It is clear to me that research is the way to achieve this.
