Unstoppable Testimonies

Hello! My name is Ester and I am Unstoppable against Hodgkin’s lymphoma. It all started because of a lump on my neck that appeared when I was 28 years old. I underwent several tests and the diagnosis arrived: Hodgkin’s lymphoma, nodular sclerosis type, stage 2, with a risk factor in the form of an 8 cm mass in the mediastinum.

I remember that at the beginning everything went very fast. A lot of tests and I had to be operated on 3 times in 3 weeks. My life was like living in a film. I remember the fear that my family would collapse at the news, so my strategy was to be positive so that they would be positive.

After 9 sessions of chemo, just when I thought the end of this horror movie was near, the worst came… The chemotherapy had not worked as expected and, once again, I had more lumps. This was the hardest moment of all.

We were back to square one. It was back to the operating theatre, three cycles of a new, much more aggressive rescue chemotherapy and a bone marrow autotransplant.

Even today I still find it hard to think that I have really lived through all this. It was more than a year of struggle, a very hard and long road. Now I am recovered and I have a will to live. In the end, one keeps all the good things from these experiences: a lot of learning, getting to know myself better, appreciating the little things, knowing who is going to be there forever and living life differently.

It is clear to me that research is key and that we need it badly. Thanks to research, I had a second treatment option when the first one didn’t work. That is why I think it is so important to support further research and to improve treatments and make them less aggressive.
