Unstoppable Testimonies

About 3 years ago I registered in the Bone Marrow Donor Registry managed by the Josep Carreras Foundation. Last summer, as I was climbing the 800 stairs of the Petra Monastery, I received a call that they had found a compatible recipient and that we needed to do more tests to confirm compatibility and get the process underway.

I started the preparation treatment and on Wednesday 19 September 2018 I made my donation.

During those days I thought a lot about what it can mean to a person waiting for a transplant to know that there is someone on the other side of the world who can help cure their often terminal illness. I have thought about the different ways we have to give life, apart from the innate process of procreation itself, and I have come to the conclusion that human beings are wonderful.

I also feel very fortunate to have had this possibility. And, why not say it, also proud of the small goals that one achieves in life, this book of experiences, successes, mistakes and lessons that I like so much.

This is dedicated to you, we don’t know each other, but it seems as though we share the same strength. I wish you all the best and hope you can enjoy a fulfilling life. I dedicate these words to the people who are donors in one way or another, to those who end up getting a transplant, but also for those who unfortunately do not make it in time. And also to the scientists who make these miracles possible.

A few months have passed since my donation and I have often thought about how simple the whole process was and how such a small gesture can change not only the patient’s life but also the lives of all the people around them. I have become even more sensitive to those who have to fight against this disease and I also try to spread my experience whenever I have the opportunity, as I believe that there is still a certain degree of ignorance.
