Unstoppable Testimonies

Leire was born healthy and happy on 3 December 2016. In November 2018 she fell, as any child can fall, but the problem was that she started limping. We went to the emergency department and they gave her a painkiller and told us that she should rest for four or five days.

After those days of recovery, Leire was still limping and began to have a fever. We had to go back to the emergency department and that’s when they did a blood test and told us that she had to stay in hospital because they concerned about the results. I didn’t sleep a wink that night.

The next morning, the oncologist called us to her office and told us that the child probably had cancer. At that moment our world fell apart… we couldn’t believe it. She was taken up to the paediatric ICU for a lumbar puncture and it was then that we were told she had acute lymphoblastic leukaemia.

She spent three months in a row on chemotherapy, isolated due to two viruses and had to be put on two reservoirs. After those three months she was discharged and now we visit the hospital for chemotherapy and check-ups.

It was the scariest time I have ever had in my life, but day by day she proves to us that she is strong and that she can handle this and everything that comes her way. She is giving us a lesson in life! Thanks to our family and all the people who are by our side at this time and who help us to get up and continue to fight this battle.
